Empty Horizons - Hudson Music Company (HMCS/LP509) 1974

The seventh LP in my DAWN OF THE DEAD Library Music Revealed series is called EMPTY HORIZONS by The Pierre Arvay Ensemble from the Hudson Music Company.

It features the tracks "Desert De Glace", "Caverne De Glace", "Snowbirds", "Kadath" and "Ice Floe" which were all used as background music in DAWN.

"Desert De Glace" plays during a montage of zombies milling around the mall and the group settles in at the mall. It is combined with "Cosmogony Part 4" for part of it's run time.

"Caverne De Glace" also plays in conjunction with "Cosmogony Part 2" after the tennis ball rolls off the roof and during the proceeding shots of zombie milling about outside the mall. It also plays notably when Peter returns to the hideout and Fran wants to go after Stephen.

"Snowbirds" is the sting that you hear when Stephen as a zombie turns and starts to claw at the wall that leads to the hideout and then tears through the wall and walk through.

"Kadath" can be briefly heard as Fran lifts off into the air as Peter comes out of the roof window at the end of the movie and when Peter encounters the zombie that takes his rifle. Then some of it's guitar strings play right before "The Gonk" and the end credits start as the helicopter flies away.

"Ice Floe" is featured in the Extended Cut of the film only. It can be heard while Peter and Stephen lower the gates on the stores before the bikers get into the mall. It then returns under the scene of the bikers in their cars deciding how to get into the mall.
