31 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS WITH DAWN OF THE DEAD: DAY 10

 

Today's post features a rare cast and crew photo taken near the end of filming DAWN OF THE DEAD. The photo comes from the collection of John Amplas, I’ll tell you more about it in a bit. Here’s the first part of the story behind this photo. There is documentary footage out there on various releases of DAWN OF THE DEAD, provided by Bob and Ralph Langer. They were both zombies in DAWN. They filmed some footage while there on set. In this footage you can see many of their scenes being filmed and other scenes too. At the end of the footage you can see the cast and crew gathering in front of the fountain in the mall to take this picture. Very often, when people make movies, near the end of the shoot, they often get together and take a nice cast and crew photo to commemorate their time making the movie, it’s a fun thing to do. So that’s why they took this picture above. 

If you think all that’s cool, well listen to this second part of the story. This particular photo seen here has an even more interesting story behind it, which I will now get to. This is not an actual press photo made to promote DAWN OF THE DEAD. It’s fake. This was made up to look like a press photo in photoshop. This image of the cast and crew comes from the collection of actor, director, and teacher John Amplas. John had a small copy of this photo in either 4x6 or 5x7 size. He had it for many years. At some point he gave it to his convention agent Jim Cirronella of Celebrity Icons. Jim adjusted it and cleaned it up in photoshop. He then added the info below it and made it look like an official press photo used in the promotion of DAWN OF THE DEAD. Pretty cool huh? But that’s not all…
