31 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS WITH DAWN OF THE DEAD: DAY 13

Today's post features a rarely seen behind the scenes photo taken on the set of DAWN OF THE DEAD during the filming of the tenement scenes that took place at the Glen Hazel Projects in December of 1977.

In this photo is Clayton McKinnon. In DAWN OF THE DEAD he plays one of the SWAT guys trying to clear the dead out of the tenement building for the good of the people there, who were at first uncooperative. Clayton is in a scene, with Scott Reiniger as “Roger”, and another SWAT soldier played by crew member John Rice. Clayton walks by Roger standing in a doorway and enters a room. Clayton stands there in the room and sees a zombie crawling toward the SWAT soldier played by John Rice and he says “Shoot it man, shoot it man. Shoot it in the head.” A woman zombie played Renee Banks, comes out of another room and attacks Clayton. They struggle and Roger steps in to help. They throw the zombie on a couch and kill it. John Rice shoots the zombie crawling toward him and then kills himself.

Clayton also played a drug dealer in Romero’s MARTIN. In MARTIN, John Amplas as “Martin” is being chased by the cops and he stumbles into a building with some sort of drug deal going on. There are three guys standing there doing the deal. Two of them are brothers Pat Buba and Tony Buba, and the third is Clayton McKinnon. They chase after Martin and then the cops show up, the cops then start a shoot out with the drug dealers. Fortuitously, they all end up dead except for Martin, who gets away unscathed.

Clayton is rumored to live in California these days.

Each day this month I will be showing you something cool, rare, or even noteworthy concerning DAWN OF THE DEAD as a Christmas Present to the fans from me. I hope that you are enjoying this holiday look at DAWN OF THE DEAD.
