Today's post features yet another one of my infamous shot re-creation and comparisons. This one features a shot of George Romero and his crew filming one of the most iconic scenes in DAWN OF THE DEAD. This is when they filmed the “When there’s no more room in hell…” speech, spoken by Ken Foree. This moment above was captured by Roy Frumkes and his documentary crew that visited the set of DAWN OF THE DEAD. This footage would go one to become part of one of the coolest behind the scenes films ever made, years later it would be released as DOCUMENT OF THE DEAD. You can see the above shot in DOCUMENT OF THE DEAD along with so much more. It’s an amazing work about George Romero, his film MARTIN, and the filming of DAWN OF THE DEAD.
You can of course match the patterns on the marble columns in both the original and modern shots. Each year when I host tours of the Monroeville Mall during the Living Dead Weekend: Monroeville, I show every tour this spot. In fact, when we get to this spot, I reference DOCUMENT OF THE DEAD, and what you see in the scene above. Then, I say some of the lines, maybe not as well as Ken, but it’s fun. There will be tours again next June 10-12, 2022. Tours and event tickets are not for sale yet. Tours always sell out, so get your tickets as early as you can when they are announced as available. You usually can’t buy them at the event because they have already sold out, so just pay attention to the event website and Facebook group to see when tickets are available. Each day this month I will be showing you something cool, rare, or even noteworthy concerning DAWN OF THE DEAD as a Christmas Present to the fans from me. I hope that you are enjoying this holiday look at DAWN OF THE DEAD.
