31 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS WITH DAWN OF THE DEAD: DAY 12

Today's post features a cool shot re-creation and comparison using a behind the scenes photo taken on set during the filming of DAWN OF THE DEAD. In the original photo, you see Director George Romero holding a gun and his Director of Photography Michael Gornick filming a scene in the movie. The scene that they are filming takes place near the end of the movie during the looting of the mall by the bikers and raiders. After Flyboy starts shooting at these characters, they see Peter, and they start to shoot at him as he runs upstairs on the upper level. In the movie you can see one closeup shot of a hand firing a gun at Peter as he runs down a hallway. Peter doesn’t get shot, but he gets really upset, he then stops and says into his walkie talkie, “Alright dammit, now we got a war!” Because this person shot at him, he then starts fighting back and firing on the looting bikers and raiders. That close up of the gun firing on Peter is the hand of Director George Romero, that is the scene that they are filming in the original photo above. I do stop and point out where this happens in each Monroeville Mall tour that I host each year during the Living Dead Weekend Convention. The next one is June 10-12, 2022.

In the photo comparison above, you can match the two marble columns that you can see in both photos. On the extreme left along the edge of the frame of each photo, you can see part of a column, at the very bottom corner of the photo, you can see where the pattern is clearly a match. You can also look over George’s shoulder in the original photo and see a column with an almost moaning looking face. It’s also there on the column in the bottom photo. We have a match. Pretty pretty cool.

Each day this month I will be showing you something cool, rare, or even noteworthy concerning DAWN OF THE DEAD as a Christmas Present to the fans from me. I hope that you are enjoying this holiday look at DAWN OF THE DEAD.

BONUS!
